Last of Ely 6 in the big house for three years each...

39 posts in this topic

Lackner and Olson are going away for three years each. And they haven't faced the federal charges related to breaking the law by transporting unregistered or illegal guns into Canada.

Any of you who defended these guys early on care to comment on the fact they've been found guilty? Just wondering...

What's there to defend? They got what they deserved. I feel bad for these guys families,it's just too bad they were not thinking about them before they pulled this crazy stunt.

I agree, I feel bad that their families will suffer for the next 3 yrs because of their stupid choices.

BUT I agree with the sentencing. Those campers were scared to death with guns, threats of rape, etc. I'd have hid my family in the woods too.

They chose to be stupid and thought they could get away with cuz they were out in the middle of nowhere. They got what they deserved!! Considering what they did it could have been worse, some may say they got off pretty darn easy.

Hope this stops or makes anyone else considering picking on innocent people camping in the wilderness areas anywhere, that your actions against people will make you pay in the end.

They will soon find out how tough they really are, my bet is that they aren't as tough as they thought they were. It sounded like they singled out families, instead of groups of men camping in there.

when I tell people of my trips into the BWCA, out west ( the mountains), etc. alot will ask "aren't you afraid of the bears ( or animals in general ) " I always have said the animals are fine, its the people I don't trust.

Hmmm never thought I would have proof to back that up. Pretty said isn't it.

They were lucky to get away with 3 years. In fact they were lucky that they didn't wonder into the wrong camp. By contrast it will be interesting to see what the Valley Fair youths end up getting for a sentence.

Too bad more people don't get what they deserve. I don't think they got enough though but at least it's something.

I personally know the families of those involved. They are good people. But these guys got what they had coming.

I wonder what the Fed's will do with this.

Does anybody know if any Civil actions are forth coming?

Count me among those who think they got off easy. I like beer but I can't envision ever having enough for any of what they did to make sense or seem "fun".

The ringleader put a lot of things in front of his two boys, wife and occupation that day.

Does 3 years really mean about 20 months?

24 months. 2/3 of the sentence with time off for good behavior. And then of course, probation for at least the remaining year.

Boot camp program, if they qualified. Guns where involved, so maybe not.

Boot camp program can shed a sentence down like this to at max of 12 months. But they would have to go threw a prison boot camp program though.

t sounds to me like they could be going to St.clould then Stillwater. One of the has already had run ins with the law. If its stillwater the might have a warm welcomeing there. who knows. I guess the feds and canada could still step in.

I figured Moose Lake, they have the boot camp program. If the Fed. charges stick, they could spend time in Sherburne Co. at the end if time served does not count against the Federal charges.

Is Still Water Fedral, I think it is. Oak Park heights might be the county or state?

I thought stillwater was state. But maybe not. i hope some one else steps in for the other possible charges. If not at least one is getting off easy.

I also thought Still Water was State, but do to the hype on TV thought it was a Federal thing.

I know Sherburne Co. Correctional Facility is one of the only Federal/holding prisons in the state, I think short of a Mpls. We held that Misowie guy for a long time in our local prison and that is what it is a prison, not a county jail.

Oak Park Heights is a supermax so I doubt they'll be going there.

Stillwater is a state prison. Have toured it twice as my wife's son is a corrections officer there. Not a very nice place to call home for the next three years if thats where they end up. St Cloud, Rush City, Lino Lakes, Faribault & Moose Lake are all also state prisons.

I would guess they'll do their time somewhere up north, like a workhouse or something similar.

I would however like to see them march that Lakner through Stillwater wearing his knit cap with fake dreadlocks.

A quick follow up on this - Barney is serving his time in St. Cloud, where 50% of his 1,000 cellmates have been convicted of murder, sexual assult, kidnapping, & assult. It's a level 4 closed custody facility built in the 1800's.

Not a very nice place to spend the next 2-3 years. If anyone remembers the Holappa muder in Gilbert 4 years ago, 2 of the 3 convicted are also at St. Cloud.

Wow, not that he doesn't deserve it but I didn't figure he'd go to a facility like St. Cloud.

    • Thanks for bringing that to my attention.  I am now going to add this quick connector to the coax side and plug that into the wall plate for quick on and off.
    • I have had the Ion for two season's.  It works as good if not better than any auger I have previously owned.  The battery did not show any signs of degradation in it's second season,  I will soon see what the battery does in season three.    I use it in a 9 hole wheel house, opening 7 of the holes everytime I have gone fishing.  Additionally, I go outside the house and always pop open a half dozen extra holes.  I have never had to worry about the charge when setting up for each trip. The battery (older version) does all of those holes including reversing the auger on each hole to remove as much slush as possible.  It usually runs longer in reverse than it does drilling the hole.    I often intentionally drill old holes when I am outside to see if I can experience any lose in power or battery life and haven't had any complaints yet.   20 plus inches of ice hasn't change any of these results.   Since the new battery also works in the older version of the auger I was thinking about buying the newer battery but after some thinking about it there isn't any reason to spend the $200 for a backup that I don't currently need (knock on wood).
    • I was gonna go catfishing but then I remembered I had all my teeth
    • Why do you guys take pictures with the bait?

    • No beer in a boat has to be the 2nd stupidest law in the history of the world next to when Wisconsin had the no trolling law   I believe he was talking more about the coverage than the care.
    • The new X battery does work with the previous model for sure.  It gives you the same +60% efficiency with either unit.
    • If you plan on reopening any holes, go with the Ion.  The Lazer blades don't reopen holes
    • I am planing on getting an electric auger and I was trying to decide between the new ION X or strikemaster lithium lazer.  I know no one has experience with the new Ion but wondering how the older models have been holding up (does the batteries still hold a good charge) and kinda the same think with the strikemaster.  I have seen the electra lazer and not to impressed with it that is why I am wondering if the lithium is any better.  Hope you guys can help    Thanks Bobby
    • If I am thinking of this right you will plug that directly into your camera and have a coax cable running to the wall plate then? If that is the case the only thing I can think of is it will be a pain to plug and unplug the wire when you want to use it. If you are keeping it hooked up all the time then I don't see a problem.
