shorebird

It's starting

4 posts in this topic

I had a couple of bird watchers from St. Cloud at the cabin this weekend and they said they saw small flocks of birds coming through.

I was working on a food plot this afternoon and between 75-100 Gulls flew overhead. I also saw Least Sandpipers and Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs at one of my ponds.

I am only a couple of miles from Canada so I have to think the migration is on it's way.

Have a nice week

I certainly agree Shorebird....the shorebirds seem to be congregating in the same areas that the spring migration had ....It's a sure sign that the push south has started...also verified by other birders in the area

Migration? It seem like it was just a couple months ago that northern MN got dumped on with the white stuff.

    • Yah - great looking decoys! MJ - I'm just letting you know I'm breaking into your house and stealing your spear rack.  And mount. I found a rickety old 5 tine when I cleaned out the garage.  I might give it a try this season.
    • I can't identify any of those for sure, and certainly wouldn't recommend eating any of them.  The first pic might be some older honey mushrooms, but it's pretty tough to tell.  I've got about 8 mushrooms that I can positively id.  Beyond that, it's just not worth being wrong.  There are still some fresh hen of the woods mushrooms around the metro if you get out into some oak woods.  You can find them around the base of big mature oaks and they are pretty easy to identify.  Found about 20 on Wednesday.  Many were a little old, but was able to take 4 nice ones home.  Here's a pic of one that I left behind.
    • I'm putting it on my calendar.  Don't forget the Nord Lord trophy since it has a new home to go to.
    • Detroit News breaks 143 year tradition, endorses Gary Johnson.   The endorsement is the first time in the paper’s 143-year history it has endorsed someone other than the Republican Party’s nominee. http://www.breitbart.com/news/detroit-news-breaks-tradition-endorses-libertarian-gary-johnson/
    • Kind of like Trump did Monday night.
    • Gets on a bunch of talk shows. Jumps another 5 points in the polls.. This just ain't working the way it's supposed to...
    • Looks like it's unanimous then. Good thing my vote goes to Hillary since it seems everyone thinks she is the best person for the job.
    • In your situation I'd try to be standing around the time you expect the deer to show up since it sounds like your upper body will have branch cover but not lose drawing ability. I usually set up off to the side and a little behind the tree from the direction I expect the deer to come from.  That way I get the full benefit of the cover of the tree I'm in. I stand a lot though; I rarely sit.  My ears tell me quite a bit but I'm usually looking around that tree all the time and my body is close to it.  I seem to be able to get away with quite a bit of movement and am rarely at 15 feet or higher.
