Michelle Wie

13 posts in this topic

I know not that many on here follow the LPGA, but Michelle Wie has pulled out of the British Open this weekend to play with the men on a PGA event with a sponsor exemption. I read today that Sorenstam, Alfredsson, Creamer and others are not in agreement with the decision.

She must obviously be a draw for the mens tournament for novelty; no wins on the LPGA tour, a couple seconds and DQ'd last week for not signing a score card usually aren't the qualifications needed to move to the mens tour.

Did she make the right move? Was she afraid of the British Open? Did her parents/managers give her bad advice? Your thougts please.

Sounds like her dad is giving her real bad advice. She needs to win on the Womens tour first. If she doesn't start getting better advice there will be alot of talent wasted.

I agree with jigger-matt, she needs to win a few on the women's tour then she can mix in with the men. If she can't even win on the womens tour what is she trying to prove?

I think it is a shame. With her sponser exemption she takes away a spot from someone that has struggled to get in. How about the last guy that qualifies and gets bumped because of her gets to take her spot in the womens open. FOUL,FOUL-NO FAIR!!!! I bet he would make the cut. I personally would like to see it so the parents could get a taste of reality. She is just a kid.

Actually a sponsors exemption doesn't bump another player from the field. It's just an addition to the field.

When she starts winning on the LPGA tour she can then play on a regular basis on the LPGA tour. How the [PoorWordUsage] does anyone think this is a good idea. If this is just a money thing and they think they will draw a bigger crowd and more sponsors why don't some of the LPGA event sponsors push for Tiger of Phil to play in a ladies event. Those guys are automatic when it comes to bringing people out to the course.

It's a joke. Nothing more, nothing less. Publicity stunt. If she's playing I won't watch. If it's her parents idea and they continue to control what she does and when she does it don't be suprised if she winds up on the surreal life or doing some cheap porn video in the future.

OK. Deep breath. Get yourself together. I'm better now.

My guess is Nike's behind this. She has been a disaster for them and this is a way to get her (their products) some exposure. Money talks and Nike spends as much as anyone to promote the PGA and the LPGA. I'd rather see John Daly, not as fun to look at, but a lot more fun to watch. blush

i think it is just a money thing ! mostly for her dad! they are paying big bucks for her to play, and it seems that is the only thing her dad has had on his mind. not what is good for her, but how can he make the most money off her. it's a shame! i think she could be a great player if they would let her come up thru the ranks.

If she'd stick with the LPGA I think she would dominate with a little more experience.

The next thing you hear about her will be that she's dating Tommy Lee or Pam Anderson. Just a hunch.

Thats funny Koonie.

In her credit she did beat quite a few men yesterday in the PGA Tour event.
