Fishing slow the first day, but picked up each and every day. Jose caught the fattest 42 inch northern we've ever seen in the small portage lake. Portage trails were alittle tough, but worth it. Over 250 fish for the 2 of us, all artificial. Northern size all the way up to 42 1/2 inches (20++ pounds). Walleye up to 22 inches and bass up to 18 inches. Cast for walleye, catch big bass. Rocks were strong. Weeds still too low to fish. Avg 16 inch bass. Northern running deeper. Hot weather most of the week. Fishing was the best we've had. Avgeraging 50-75 fish/boat each day. Could of caught many more if we would sit in 1 stop, wanted to explore other area's of the lake and rivers. Great fishing in the river everywhere. Largest northerns were 2 at 40 inches and 1, 36 inch pike. With numerous mid 30 inch class. Saw alot of wildlife including 4 moose and had great weather. Avg size 20-25 inches. Biggest at 27 1/2 inches. Biggest pike 37 1/2 inches. Almost all fish caught on yellow jigs. Could not catch pike on bigger northern baits. Good service. Lots of walleye in Austin too, just ran smaller in size. Caught 2-24 inch walleye and 23 and 22 1/2 inches. 40 inch, 35 1/2 inch, 31 1/2, and 2-30 inch northerns caught. The largest northern caught the 1st evening of the trip in Austin. Lake transitioning, weeds starting to come up. Perch looking lures along with gold worked well. Used no live bait. Caughts lots of fish including 2 pike over 40 inches. Largest being 44 1/2 inches. Had especially good luck in Kaminskag. Strout was so-so fishing compared to previous trips and was difficult to get boats back up the rapids. First class operation. Bring peanuts for the woodchuck. Everything was as advertised. Walleyes where mainly 16-22 inches. A handful of northern in the mid 30 inch class and 1 northern at 42 inches. Caught within 20 yards from the dock. North portage provided the biggest walleye. Dock fishing gave us the biggest northern. 25 inch walleye, 32 inch northern. Awesome fishing, hardly a slow day. Men outfished the women (maybe becuase 8:00 a, was too earily for fishing). L & M did an excellent job again, we will be back. Very few fish in the main lake yet, mostly in the rivers. 1100+ walleyes. 26 3/8 inch walleye being the largest, caught on an ultra light. Largest pike 39 inchs, caught on 4# test ultra light. Natalie caught a 37 inch pike with her first cast off the dock to start the trip off. Fish were scattered all over, in the rivers and out in the main lake. Another great trip with L & M. Deluxe accomodations. Definately coming back. Had 1 large nothern well over 40 inches come up and grabbed a walleye we were fighting to the boat, he praticed his own form of catch and release. Lot of walleye in the rivers yet, numberous walleyes in the 23-25 inches. Largest being 26 1/2 inches. Largest pike 36 inches. Saw 2 moose and fox swimming in the channel. Mayfly hatched but still caught lots of fish during the trip. One day it seemed like every walleye we caught was attacked by a northern before we could get it to the boat. One caught on spoon and the other on minnow in the bays. Many 20 plus inch walleye with the largest being 22 inches. Most walleye caught in river narrows area in 5-7 foot of water. Although it rained everyday, we still caught alot of fish. 40 plus per boat each day with some days around 60 fish per boat. Minnows worked best with crawlers almost as good.
