Transom savers?

How much to transom savers really help? My boat came with one but I've noticed that not everyone uses them. Is it something that I only need to use on long trips or should I use it every time I pull my boat out of the garage?

I have seen a few transoms cracked because they didn't use a saver!! Think about all the times you go over bumpy railroad tracks or hit potholes...all those times the motor is probably coming down and thus putting pressure on the transom. I guess I'm just one who likes to safe rather than sorry!! They are not expensive and only take a couple of seconds to remove!!
