If you want to stay with a flasher unit the easiest is to purchase a Vexilar or Zercom ice fishing unit. Then pick up a summer kit that has a puck transducer. That way all you do is swap the head unit to go from season to season.

Both units have good and bad points, just like anything else. If you can see both of them set up at the same time, look at the features and compare the colors of the display. Pick the one that is easiest for you to read and operate. You will hear lots of personal opinions, about power and target seperation. The fact is they are both good units and both work on the water very well. The biggest thing is confidence in your equiptment if you have that you have the best unit for you.

If this is any help, I was at Vexlar yesterday and they told me the new FL-18 flasher will be released at the end of this month. Check it out on there web-site. It looks pretty cool. Hope this helps.http://www.vexilar.com/fl18.html
