Crossing the border

I was reviewing the regulations for crossing into canada and noticed it says that you need a passport. I've been to canada 5 times and never needed a passport, is this a new requirement this year?

I cross 1-2 times a month and a photo id and a birth certificate is the most I've ever been asked to produce. I have never been asked for a passport. Where are you crossing into Canada?

Hi there,

I've researched this, and in order to clear Canada customs you require photo identification, as well as proof of citizenship in the form of birth certificate, "OR" passport. Not neccessarily both.
