Duty Free Shops

Recommended Posts

How do the duty free shops work. A group of us are going into Canada this summer and are wondering about taking alcohol (beer) with us. In the past we've just paid the duty at the border but it keeps getting higher and higher. Do these shops even have beer?

What Port of Entry are you going to be entering? Duty Free shops are awesome in my mind. Booze is cheap, hassle free. Granted you are only allowed one 24-case of beer or one 1 liter bottle of booze, but still good deal. ARe you going up for the type of trip where you'd need more than that per person? If so, I would just suggest buying it in Canada. Seems expensive at first, but with the exchange, and lack of hassle paying duty at the border, it's well worth it. Hope this helps.

We are probably crossing at Pembina. 10 of are going for a week. One of the guys owns a tavern so we get the beer and whiskey at a good price. Paying duty is still cheaper than buying it in Red Lake Ont.

we look forward to purchasing beer when we go to canada. don't know, but this stuff just seems much better than our beer in minnesota. we all brought up a case of brewskis into canada, and we all brought this case back with us a week later. besides, its a vacation, the cost isn't important.
