Guest
Is it possible to change a 1972 25hp Evinrude long shaft to a short shaft without alot of expense? It appears that there is an extension in the shaft. Thanks for any and all help.
0 Paul Rohweller
That ones pretty much gravy to switch. For starters you will need a shortshaft driveshaft. Drop the lower unit by removing the bolts that hold it to the exhaust housing. I cannot remember if theres a cover plate for the shift linkage, if there is it will be a ways up on the exhaust housing held in by two screws, remove the cover and loosen bolt on linkage.Shift mechanisim is just an extension, remove that and toss or resell, water pipe will be on an extension also, do as noted, while your in there put a new water pump in. Whole thing shouldnt take you more than a couple hours.. good luck!
