1986 fxrd??? Barn find

My father in law has a dozen or so farms near Milwaukee, I was down this weekend snooping around for some sheds and came upon what I think is a fxrd. It was last licensed in 08 and I have no history on it. My wife who is doing a legal title search to see if it's hot, which it maybe if so it will get handed over to the authorities. However my father in law is a hoarder and he think he may have bought it 10 years or so years ago. My question is, is it really a fxrd? If so I guess it's rare because it was only in production for a year because it didn't sell because it's pretty ugly from most Harley enthusiasts. I just just sprayed off 2 inches of barn dust and it doesn't look horrible, however there is a little pitting on some of the chrome. Other than that's, I don't have a key, which is used for the ignition, did the cargo area use the same key? I checked the oil and it's full so I am guessing it isn't blown. The gas tank has gas in it but it doesn't seem rusty which was a surprise. My question is, if we can get a clear title, should I put money into it to get it running or sell it as is. I know that's a loaded question, but just looking for some input.

Any why would I turn him in?  I never said he stole it, I guess your not very knowledgeable on things that get abandonded on old run down farms within close proximity to metro areas. Especially when he has about 2k acres connected, it's gets a bit tough to police when he is 86 years old.

There is lots of stuff, but again he is a hoarder so he won't get rid of anything hence the reason he bought 14 farms and he's not even a farmer. It's a shame, he has a couple of Porsches from the 70s that are now part of the landscape on one of the farms. His bone yard of "n" series tractors is impressive, ther must be 20 of them just rotting away.

Oh, I did find some sheds while I was there also.  I didn't look hard, I was pretty lucky I have less than an hour searching for these 3. The one on the left is a pretty good one, should be a dandy next year if he's still around. He hangs out within 20 yds from a barn.  That G2 is 10" and pretty thick around the base.

You need to call Mike & Frank the Pickers!

May be they can get in and make some buys and we'll see it on the show? :)

;)

I bought a 1987 FXR custom, new in the crate in 1988. (Willy G. Davidson edition)

No console, leather embossed strap down the center of the tank.

Wish I still had it.

Shortly after that HD discontinued the FXR frame.

That may add to value. The FXR was one of Harley's best handling machines.

FWIW, I paid 8K out the door. Put 33000 miles on it and sold it for 9K.

Nope not running, still finishing up on the new title with the state and I have it sold a few times over. Actually a Harley Davidson shop bought it in N Wisconsin, that is if I can get the title figured out. Hoping I hear back in the next couple of weeks.

Funny story, I called up HD shop gave them the VIN to get stock keys and the mgr, said really you really have one of these? He jumped on his Harley drove over and made a offer that I accepted pending the title work.

Ugly bike  but man was there interest, mainly because it is 100% stock and it's had everything I guess.

Yeah, not sure why they want it so bad I am guessing because there are not many of them around that are all stock. Not sure and at this point really don't care.

It's always great to pull something sitting in a barn and bring it back to life.  Hope it works out.
