Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Opening Weekend Official Results

Recommended Posts

DNR released opening weekend results.  The harvest in the 100 series was up to 10%, the only area that was up..  Statewide is down 7% compared to last year.  Going to need a big second weekend to beat last years harvest, even with the additional doe tags this year.

Thanks for posting this info. With this funky warm weather we're having, it might take until the 3rd weekend (for those of us who have it) before the deer really start moving.

My two cents, but I just don't get behind the "it's too warm...deer aren't moving" school of thought. Last year I took my biggest ever buck on a 57 degree day. This year our party did great in 60 degree heat. Others I talked to had "up" weekends, too, and reported rutting bucks, as did we. If the bucks are rutting, they are moving. When they've got "that thing" on their brain, I don't think they much care if it's 50 above or 50 below. Again, just my opinion, and maybe others have better evidence to the contrary, but I just haven't seen it.

Talked to a guy down the block.  He was trying to find the keys for his truck on Sunday.  Their group had gotten 4 on saturday and 3 on sunday.   Near Rochester (simpson).   I don't know how many guys there were.   They were going to somewhere else, near Oronoco sunday afternoon.

Seem to be a lot of deer around here in the SE.

Interesting that the harvest is down.  We saw substantially more deer this year than we've seen in any of the last 10.  Probably more than any combined 3 year period.

What one party sees is not what the whole state saw. Lots of input factors come into play for every area. The guy a mile down the road might not have seen a deer.

I saw the most deer that I have ever seen in stand in 184. Now don't get excited, I only saw 6. I harvested a large doe early Saturday afternoon and called it a day. I heard 3 deer Sunday but that was it.

I didn't see a single deer from my stand all weekend and only about 3 all weekend during drives. This is the lowest total I have seen since the blizzard of 91. There are tons of deer around here but they are in the corn and will be until it is gone or the low ground freezes.

Still had a great weekend.

    • I have it staged and ready to go on the shore and probably could push it out by hand. I have what looks like 4 inches of ice.
    • I think he meant Clutches. Does the sled come with clutches?
    • Preference.  120 is towards the rare side.  I do 129.   Great deal on Anova circulators at anovaculinary.com (and probably amazon as well)  I have the cheap one, bluetooth 800 watts. Anyway, here is a writeup about cooking salmon.   A few degrees make a big difference.   http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2016/08/sous-vide-salmon-recipe.html Get one and try it.  You will love it.   Makes cooking nice stuff easy and reliable.   They don't cost a lot.   Right now the Anova  is 109 for the bluetooth one and 129 for wifi.   Control it manually or use an app on your phone.   I just do it manually.
    • I don’t think this would fly with most of the people I eat most dinners with but it just might with two of the better cooks I know. I’m one who prefers my food cooked JUST enough instead of killing it all over again.  This interests me.
    • Doesn’t everyone have spare crutches in the shed?
    • after it comes out an rests it is another story, in my book... it's sweated out...   and the smoke is good on ya!!!
    • the 120 bothers me....
    • Hey roony I seen that in the meme thread;!
    • Great read! https://www.outdoorhub.com/reviews/2017/11/22/k-drill-auger-milwaukee-tool-m18-fuel-drill-ice-fishing-game-changer/ With the 9amp Red lithium batts it's a ice gobbling machine!
    • When you start slicing some up see if your hands get the smoky  smell on them. Part of the reason I ask is when you get summer sausage from a good meat shop like Schmidts down in Nicollet, MN,  it dose not leave the smell. Just makes me wonder if they use liquid smoke to keep the batches more consistent flavor wise and the skins clear of the smokey smell.
