delcecchi
Found a bunchof these growing on down logs along a bike path here in Rochester. I picked one for identification. If they are good eating, I can go back . biggest ones were 6+inches What is the verdict?
Grainbelt
It appears to be a Pheasant Back mushroom.
delcecchi
I saw that on a Web page, but it was saying they are a spring thing, like morels. Is that not so? Sure looks like the picture.
JP Z
Yep, been seeing some folks are getting into flushes of them. They generally are a spring thing, but honestly it's only them and Morels out so folks are looking more.
delcecchi
So, are they good to eat? raw? Fried?
Jim Uran
Fried is the way to go.
zzammon
AKA - Dryads Saddle. The outside inch or two are good if young but get rubbery as they age. If you can easily scrape away the pores with your thumb nail they are good. My opinion - Scrape the spores off and throw away spores. Fry the remainder in butter, don't overcook.
