New Ice Castle Questions

5 posts in this topic

Hey all,

I recently upgraded from my homemade wheelhouse to a new hydraulic ice castle and had a few questions I forgot to ask at the dealer.

1. For the hydraulic frame, does anyone bring extra hydraulic fluid with? Wouldn't imagine to need it unless you had a leak but I don't know much about hydraulics. Ever need to change out the fluids?

2. Ladders. After buying and trying to get on the top bunk I noticed it is extremely hard to climb up there (especially after a few beers) are they suppose to come with a ladder? was going to call the dealer and try and make them throw one in. I made a temporary ladder which works fine but wondering what other people have done.

3. DNR Registration numbers. My previous house I had some decals made up and looked real nice. However that had smooth siding. Anyone have any advice on where to put numbers that look good? Suppose I could just be extra careful in applying to the ribbed siding so they get applied smooth with the grooves but wondering where everyone else puts theirs. Don't really want to do the old white square boat numbers on there.

4. Microwaves. Anyone have any recommendations on a good microwave to install? I have a lot of empty space above the hydraulics near the kitchen I think a microwave would be perfect, and there is already an outlet there for charging the hydraulic system battery - just wondering if anyone had a good one for travel/low power draw.

5. Any recommendations on generators? Was going to go buy a new Honda 2000 have heard good things about them and always been a Honda fan. that should run a small microwave I'm thinking? My Honda 1000 bit the dust last year - mainly because of my own mistake haha

6. Sound system. Sounds okay in there but it isn't the upgraded premium speakers. Wondering if anyone had some new speakers they liked and possibly a new deck.

7. Rod holders. Wanted to throw some fishing pole holders on the wall in the bathroom. Was having a hard time finding any I liked at the stores or online. Anyone have something that worked well for them, and didn't fall out during transit? I had one last year I had mounted under a cabinet and of course the first weekend with my new crappie pole fell off and broke!

Figured I'd see if anyone had any advice on what worked well for them. Thanks in advance!!

One more thing I forgot to add, are the insulated wheel well covers worth it? Wanted to get something at least to protect the wheels in the summer from mud/sun etc., but came across insulated covers for like $200 bucks. Worth it for the money or just get some cheap wheel covers at like fleet farm?

#1 - No clue. I assume that if you get to the point on the ice that you need more fluid that you are prob SOL anyway...

#2 - I thought the same thing and found a ladder online that works great.

#3 - I had some made up and put on the door

#4 - Whatever fits the bill

#5 - Can't go wrong with the Honda, but I broke outside of the mold and went with the BLUE Powerhorse from Northern Tool and couldn't be happier. I am cautiously optimistic on how long it will last.... I guess we will see

#6 - I just put in a new BOSS system that I got cheap off of Amazon and couldn't be happier. The blue tooth feature works well for running the TV audio through the radio without having to use cords.

#7 - I have an under the cabinet holder that I picked up cheap, but never leave the rods in there while going down the road. The only ones that I would probably leave rods in while going down the road is the vertical PVC-style

    • Whole weekend cheats yes I agree even with ideal weight but one cheat meal a week I feel is ok If you are maintaining your calorie deficit for everything else. I feel like this is actually a good thing because when you are in a calorie deficit your bodies metabolism actually will slow down as your leptin levels drop to conserve energy. Having one cheat meal will temporarily raise your levels.  Now your cheat meal should be sensible still something with carbs and protein think burger or philly cheese steak sandwich pizza with sausage two or 3 slices not the whole pizza.   Fasted cardio before your cheat meal is also recommended         Anyway like others have said before being in a calorie deficit is the way to lose weight You need to find your calorie maintenance level then ideally cut 500 calories a day below that this will get you around 1lb of fat a week loss. Weigh yourself ONCE a week in the morning and track your progress give it 3 weeks before you evaluate and see if the calorie deficit you are at is right if you gained or stayed the same weight take more calorie off your daily intake. Being in a 500 calorie deficit is the most important part exercise comes second when adding exercise this is going to add to the daily calorie you burn so if without exercise you calorie deficit to lose weight was at 2500 calories with exercise it might be 2700 calories a day.   When cutting or anytime really clean foods are #1 in my book if it doesn't spoil in a week I don't eat it Think chicken, broccoli, green beans, peppers, sweet potatoes, green beans, turkey blah blah   You should also count your Macronutrients which are carbs protein and fat Ideally when cutting  10-30% carbs, 40-50% protein, 30-40% fat
    • Have you had a chance to use your new Garmin Ref? Any feedback to share...
    • Now that Dems are out of the majority I am seeing big sales on black guns. I would think you could get a better modern rifle than the bushmaster for a very reasonable price right now.
    • "Because he lives in a high tension area" ... "high capacity"....    This one sounds like trouble just waiting to happen.
    • check for crack in the boot between the motor and the carb. get it started squirt some carb cleaner on the boot if the rpm goes up there is a leak.
    • just spotted one. yay ! LOL
    • Leech is absolutely on the right track.  Likely an easy remedy here.
    • Oh yes, he has been around guns since young. I suspect it is a combination of his thinking they are "cool" weapons and the fact that he lives and often has to work in a "high tension" area. I believe he is more interested in high cap than high quality and he can likely spend something reasonable. Since these things are not my bag I am unaware of pricing, features etc. just told him I could ask around for him. Have never had one in my hands! He may have been fired up because he saw some special at F.Farm on them. Thanks.
    • No battery in a 185 3 wheeler. Will have to pull it by hand.
    •   Does he own other guns?   What does he want it for? Self defense Hunting Just to own an AR because they are cool   How much money does he have to spend on one?
