Wbl Smallies

I knew there were a few in there and that if you could find them they were of decent size, But have things changed? Is there now a targetable population of them in that lake? Who here fishes WBL for them?

Not really, I think the population is pretty constant. I have a few deep spots that I catch more smallies off than others but its still mostly largemouth coming off these spots. Also, maybe others have found consistent smallmouth locations but I havnt. They seem to be harder to nail down. You may prefish and catch some nice smallies then a few days later on your tourney not catch a single one.

We caught a few this last weekend. Not so much targeting as just fishing the areas that happen to have some rocks.

I got a personal best 21.5" smallie in the weeds Saturday. It was a surprise.

Some musky fishermen catch large ones at night trolling.

A couple of years ago, I had a few spots that I could consistently catch them every time I went out.  Last year they weren't in those same spots and there was no consistency at all.  I caught a few here and there throughout the year, although they were good quality smallies.  The lake is up a few feet, so maybe that's making a difference in where they're located.

I fish wbl often and smallies have always been a head scratcher for me. I would always joke when fishing bass tournaments there, 'he who finds the smallmouth, wins.' When you do find them, they are usually nice fish. I have yet to catch one, its becoming a great white buffalo for me. A buddy of mine caught one about 8 years ago that went 6lbs...
