Wisconsin Opener

Is anyone heading out next weekend for the Wisconsin Opener? I had some plans fall through and might have to get out somewhere on Saturday now. I've never targeted Bass for the WI Opener but have heard some great stories.

Yes I do, tons of lakes from Hudson to Grantsburg, prolly 90% are good bass lakes. Just stay away from smaller shallower lakes as they had a pretty bad freeze two winters ago. 10 day forecast is favoring a warming trend, could even be a shorts and flip flop kind a day.....or sleeting and windy since I'm going.....

Haha yeah you never know what to expect in the spring here. I have a cabin in the Danbury area and my sister purchased a cabin on a small shallow lake in the Webb Lake area. That was the year her lake winter killed...I guess there were some decent bass in there before the kill too

   MN Bass,      I used to fish alot of western WI bass lakes. Quite a few years ago I lived in Luck and fished all the lakes in that area. I haven't fished WI much the last few years cause it seems like the size structure has gotten so bad. Nick k. may chime in and give some more updated info.

That said, I would go with the more fertile lakes to boost the size potential. Trade Lake was a favorite as well as Wood. Dunham was good the last time we were there, and years ago, Clam was one of the best for big fish early.  If I had to pick one, it would probably be Big Round, Cedar or Turtle. Wapo could be good too. I may hit Cedar on wednesday

Opener should be pretty good this year with the early ice out. Generally any lake you pick over there is a decent bass lake as long as you choose one that isn't named Deer. Yes, some of the small lakes did winterkill recently, so it may be wise to avoid the really small or shallow lakes. Males may already be in the shallow sandy area looking to make beds. I would imagine the bigger girls won't be too terribly far from those areas.

I was up at my cabin in Danbury and the water temp was only 49 on Saturday and had warmed up to 51 late Sunday. I would have guessed it would have been a bit warmer but the last week of rain/cold definitely dropped the temps. It was windy this weekend!
