SkunkedAgain
My Alumacraft Navigator 165 has 8 gauge wire running from the mid-boat batteries to the trolling motor plug receptacle in the bow. I just removed my old 40lb thrust Minnkota Powerdrive v1. The plug for the trolling motor receptacle was 10 gauge and worked fine. My new 55lb Powerdrive v2 has 10 gauge wire (stamped in the insulation) but the insulation is as thick as the 8 gauge. It threw me off because I initially thought I was going from 8 gauge wire leaving the TM to a 10 gauge plug (based on wire diameter) and then back to 8 gauge boat wiring. Since the trolling motor uses 10 gauge, the plug is 10 gauge, and the boat wiring is 8 gauge I should be fine. However, I'm wondering why Minnkota would use wire with thicker insulation? delcecchi
Durability? The trolling motor cable is subject to being stepped on, bent, nicked, etc
