Humminbird options for summer and winter?

I currently run a Humminbird 1198 SI on my boat, I'd like to be able to save a bunch of waypoints, especially in the fall, weed lines, etc. and then be able to pop out the SD card and put it into a winter unit for ice fishing. Looks like my options would be Humminbird products like the 688CI HD or the Helix 5, they both have the built in GPS and card slots. Has anybody used those units on the ice? What do you think?

Or would I be better off with a handheld GPS that I used in the summer and winter??  It would be more versatile if I'm not fishing but it seems like I should be using the 1198 GPS capabilities too...

What do you think?

I spoke to the HB rep at the ice show and he talked me into a stand alone flasher for my ice fishing he stated that the helix and 688 are a touch delayed in the sonar or flasher mode but if your thinking of a   positioning unit than yes either one of those units would work well

I have used my Humminbird 788 the past 3 seasons for precisely this reason, bought an iceducer for it, works fantastic! I hardly use my flasher now, as I can see approximately one minute's worth of history on the screen, easier to interpret all of the info, and I have gps with scouted waypoints from scanning with side imaging during the open water period.
