slurpie
What kind of structure do you guys look for to spear on. I have found one lake I want to spear the sand grass ends at 9-11' I try to find that and set up there which is a little deep. Inside that weed line is a gravel sand mix and it gets shallower 6' will northerns go on the sand or do they stay more toward that weed line at 9-11'. I've really been trying to find tall weeds but that's not happening. Just wondering what you guys think. Thank you
Neighbor_guy
That could be a tricky one. The standing weeds offer a safety factor for the prey fish. I have found that the pike will move around the standing weeds looking to ambush fish in the pockets or on the edge. When faced with a flat like you are describing I will look for drop offs or humps, maybe a rock pile. Just something different that will hold baitfish. If you find the bait, you will find the pike. They might not be there all day, but more around the active times. So it's a matter of waiting out an active fish or two.
