97 Polaris XC skis

4 posts in this topic

I hit a hidden rock this weekend. It ripped the plastic ski skin badly on the right side. On the left side I broke the metal supports/braces on top of the ski that connect it to the spindle. The ski toe is pretty much disconnected from the rest of the ski.

Online I see a lot of plastic and composite skis for sale that say they are for 1997 Polaris sleds. Can these be used as replacements - i.e. is the connection to the spindle the same for most skis?

Second question is how hard it is to swap out the skis? This is a cabin sled and there is no good place to make repairs, meaning it'll be out in the open over snow covered ground.

    • I thought of a few possibilities that might work.     1.  You need like 1/8th inch of shim.   get some aluminum or plastic strips 1/8 thick and see how that plus the double layer of vinyl, fills the gap.    2. They sell t-shaped plastic, or better yet, aluminum molding.   Cover the gap with that and some silicone to hold it. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Schluter-Systems-0-344-in-W-x-98-5-in-L-Aluminum-Commercial-Residential-Tile-Edge-Trim/4328907?cm_mmc=SCE_PLA_ONLY-_-Flooring-_-SosCeramics-_-4328907:Schluter_Systems&CAWELAID=&kpid=4328907&CAGPSPN=pla&k_clickID=2b7019f3-3c90-4cfe-b281-03c39be7f0e2 (quick google search) example. Might even come in colors.   The siding guys use that stuff too.     3. Put it all together and run a bead of silicone down the seam, in a color that sort of matches the vinyl.    That's all I got.
    • My state started stocking saugeye in some of our lakes a few years ago, and I'd like to target them. I've caught plenty of walleyes, but never a saugeye (or sauger either for that matter). Do you use different techniques for saugeye than you do for walleye, or do you basically fish for them the same way?
    •    So would the 100,000,000,000 the has ever existed.     But I have a sneaking suspicion your genome originated from the same frozen bacterial booger stuck on that meteorite from another galaxy that BD's did.
    • Update   I was able to get an extension kit from Tim's Outboard! Couldn't believe it, I checked all over the internet and local shops and NOBODY had the right one for my motor, but Tim's was able to dig one up. It was a great price too, much less than I expected to pay. They shipped it out to me and I'll be installing it on Sunday. Thanks to swamptiger for the suggestion!
    •    Whether, for examples, it's the Trumper's silence, and sometimes support of, his proposed stimulus spending after opposing BHO's, or war protesters largely absent while BHO intervenes in the Middle East after 6 years of massive protest marches when GWB did, or this story, I guess it's up to the observer to decide how much of this so called outrage you've seen in the last several decades has been really based on true principles or just party politics. The press has promised to scrutinize Trump. Great. I expect that. The problem is they've lost their credibility with the rabble so the rabble are left with trying to figure out which institution is telling the truth or pulling our legs   I suppose the one positive to come from the Trump presidency is the left will now become concerned with things like fiscal responsibility, Executive Branch overreach, and interventionism in the Middle East. Not that I wouldn't welcome their  conversions once again to the aforementioned issues after taking a hiatus the last 8 years. But, better late than never, I guess
