Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

vexilar Flx-28 problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just a heads up if you going to buy a vexilar fox-28. Got one for christmas and use it this weekend for the first time and the unit froze/lock up on me about 3x. Call vexilar and said they have been aware of this issue. I was like, if you did , how come you didn't post something about it or pull the unit off the shelves. About 3-4 of my buddies that also brought new ones this year return theres and went with marcums with same issue. I will be patient and wait it out for a couple weeks to let them try and figure it out. Tech said its just this years model thats having the issue. Hopefully they fix it soon cause with the limit season we have already, I like to get out and have something reliable that I paid good money for.

One thing I know about Vexilar is that they are one, if not the most, customer friendly manufacturers in the fishing business.  I don't fish with a Vexilar now but that is only because I got another brand at a deal I could not turn down.  I would rather have a Vexilar for sure.  My suggestion is to give them a chance to correct the problem.

The easiest thing to do in your situation ( I know cuz I have been there with other products) is to over react.  I have over reacted and usually end up regretting it.  I wish you good luck with your Vexilar.

yes you are correct, I will give them time to correct  the issue and just wanted to get the word out. I do like it when it was working fine but reliability is everything.

So what's the field fix being you were able to get it unlocked at least 2 times?

you would have to turn the unit off and on. yes that sounds easy enough but for a brand new unit the price i paid for, I expect a little. A tech call be back and said that for now, 0-30ft use IR settings at 6 and above and for 30ft plus, use IR setting 1. The flx automatic adjust it but they think thats the problem, Tech said they are working with their engineers from japan.

Bummer...never heard if this issue but vex is the best company to work with. If you bring the unit in yourself, they will shower u with gifts.

Is it necessary to post in 3 different threads about your issue if the company is being polite and working with you?

Looks like the guys just getting the word out.....

I was out with a guide last weekend and they had bought 30 FL-28's and they all had issues. The guides contacted Vexilar with no results. He is going back to the FL-20 next year. I know I had mine freeze up at least 6-8 times in 2 days. Frustrating when you spend that much money.

But I would assume that to get fixed they have to go back no matter what? Why not just return it now and get something thats right? You buy a truck and its ok if you cant use it to its fullest til they get some bugs worked out? No matter how great Vex is being, you bought it and it doesnt work...I dont understand that.

thanks Richj. Yea just a heads up and getting the word out because no where is vexilar pulling their stock or letting us know about that issue. On the other couple threads, that guy was gonna get a flx28 and was just warning him, I was just being a samariten ice fisher. I will keep you guys updated on what they fine on mine. I would rather keep this unit since my wife is the one the got it for me for a gift.

Just an update, got a call from vexilar tech and they found a solution. You will need send or bring your unit in for a software update. It takes about 10 mins. I would have to say that their tech was really nice and professional even after I got pee of. If this fix it, I will hold on to my vexilar. Thanks

Less than 48 hours to come up with a solution. That was worth getting the blood pressure up for essentially a non issue.

You are going to meet a guy that will fix it and talk as long as you want on tips or any questions you have, He's a great service guy.

Thanks for posting. I just picked up the 28 for Christmas and have had the same freezing up issues. Certainly it's not a non issue as this type of new technology coupled with the price shouldn't be expected. Is there a particular person at vexilar that fixed the issue for you?

    • I was looking for reviews last night but only found a handful and they didn't really give me that much info. They seemed to be overall positive reviews but all were written after recently applying it so no info on longevity.
    • Stamped concrete looks great, but not very functional and it requires maintenance too, like every couple of years or so.   ....and how do you get the non-peeled, non-flaked area cleaned?
    •   If you think about this option I would try and look up some reviews. I would worry about it peeling or flaking off over time and having to keep re-coating it a lot. Bonding could be a big issue.
    • This isn't my patio but its very close to what I have. I think sandblasting would likely ruin the texture and pattern.  I'd also have to reapply a clear sealer after sandblasting and the sealer is what makes it slippery.
    • This just occurred to me....  I have no idea if it would work..   Could it be sandblasted to roughen the surface and give more grip?
    • I've seen a lot of options for things you can mix into the sealer before you roll it on.  I may start out going that route since I already have the sealer and the additives are cheap.  I've got a non visible area I can use as a test patch to see how it works.  I don't necessarily need it to be equal to a broomed concrete I'll settle for at least non-deadly.    Hopefully i can figure out something, my wife hates how slippery it is and is threatening to have it all torn out (the really expensive option).
    • That is the drawback to stamped concrete.  Contractors that I have worked with, always ask, are you sure you want to do this, it will be slick.  The contractors add silica sand to the sealer.  IDK if they mix the sand with the sealer prior to application or after and roll it in.  It helps, but not a grippy as broomed concrete.
    • I bought a new house last summer and it has a good sized stamped concrete patio off of the deck in the backyard.  It looks great and we use it a lot but the problem is that is very slippery when wet.  This winter it was like an ice rink when it had a little snow on it and in the summer its really slick when it rains or if the kids run on it with bare feet after playing in the sprinkler or pool.    I'm looking for solutions to reduce how slippery it is.  I've seen additives that I can add to the clear sealer that the old homeowner left for me (the cheap solution).  I've also see a product called Deck o Grip (the more expensive option) that looks to be a clear sealer that acts like a thin flexible rubber surface to prevent slips.  My concern with additives is that I don't want it to feel too rough on bare feet.  Most of the additives indicate you won't notice much but I'm wonder if that is true and if you don't notice anything does it really reduce slips that much?    Does anyone have experience with sealers for stamped concrete that aren't so dang slippery?
    • Every bird is around now except for a turkey. I heard them as the sun came up but I know they went to that field again. I am going to stick it out and see if I can get one to come over in a while.
