Has anybody ever tried using a floating or submersible light at night while crappie/walleye fishing? Were you successful? I know its illegal to use them in MN, but its legal in Wisconsin where my cabin is located.

Was thinking about giving it a whirl next weekend when i go up.

It attracts insects, that attract baitfish, which attacts predator fish. When I was a boy spending time in Texas it worked very well.

When i finally tried it a couple weeks back it didn't create lights out fishing, but i do think it helped. The plankton showed up first, the bigger bait fish showed up next, and the predators hung out outside the cirlce of light. I caught a couple nice walleyes on a floating jig head casting just outside the area of light. While this could be coincidental, i'm chalking it up to the light at least helping a little bit.
