Best Time of Fall to Hunt Cans on Christina

Recommended Posts

4 of my buddies and I are looking to do a first ever road trip for us-- Lake Christina.

I realize it may be hit or miss, or other areas (Dakotas) might offer a better shoot. But this lake has nostalgia, and it would be to experience it... Maybe even catch a wave of Red Heads or Cans.

Any ideas on when the best weekend might be to visit? We all live in Mpls, and have wives/girlfriends, so have to plan accordingly smile

Thanks!

Tom

Probably the closest to the 18th whatever that might be. Definitively not the first few weekends. There might be a few, but not waves. They are usually gone by deer hunting even if the ice is still off.

Make sure you know the motorized rules of the lake as you can only go so far if you have a motor - but there are signs all the way across the lake so it is obvious. You will likely be hunting out of the reeds in the south side of the lake out in the middle. Enough cover but it is kinda sparse when you get out in it.

Hope you have fun! The folks at Ashby resort, Mike and Diane, are great, and not even a mile or so from the access.

+1 The Resort is only a few hundred yards from the Christina access. Pretty nice place.
