Mr. Wizard
I have about 20 wood duck houses in dead trees around ponds on our property. All the literature is saying they should be on poles with predator guards. It will take a few years until I can get that all changed. Until I do what do any of you think about wrapping the trees about 3' below the houses with the real sticky ice and water shield that we use to shingle roofs? LightningBG
Are you hoping to make it too slippery to climb or sticky so predators get stuck?I don't think it will stay sticky for long once covered in dust and rain.
Dotch
Not knowing exactly where/how you have the houses mounted on the tree, suspect it might be be better to use a ~3' band of aluminum flashing material, something that is slick yet easily removable for a temporary barrier in the meantime. Still doesn't keep critters from coming from above the house unless there's a band above and below it. If they're potentially going from limb to limb (squirrels, cats, opossums, raccoons) they still might get there.
