Morson fishing report

Recommended Posts

Well out weekend had mixed results, here it goes.

Our first ever crappie trip on Friday resulted in us bringing back 18 and releasing a few. All but 3 were between 11.5" and 14", the 14" was a beast. I think we would have caught more if we could have moved around as we caught more while moving but we were stuck in the fish houses for 2 hours while it poured rain on us.

Walleye fishing was slow for us with the exception of the last hour of each day when the fish turned on. Lots of typical 11-14" saugers but did catch some 17" eyes with two that went 25". In the past we have been able to catch fish all day on these spots but just didn't happen this year. We tried reefs and shorelines. Best bite we found was in 26', deadsticks and jigs about equal.

Tullibee's bit all day in nearly every depth and all over the water column. Brought back a bunch for the smoker, always fun catching them. Not the target species but better than catching nothin for sure. Didn't catch many pike but did get a couple nice ones, 30 and 36". About the same with perch, not a ton but quality fish with all being between 11 and 14", fat fish. No pout for the fish time.

Lake travel was good on Thursday, little worse on Friday, not great on Saturday and I am guessing worse on Sunday. Good luck to everyone the rest of the year, will be back up north in a few weeks but on the river chasing sturgeon instead. Thanks for all the reports and updates! D&B

Got back last night from an epic trip to God's country. Travel on the lake was a breeze with wheelers. A little rough in some spots and you can see where it was a real mess the week before but we had no issues. Traveled to Whitefish for trout and then the Morson/Sabaskong area for crappies and walleyes. Had good luck for trout in about 45 feet. Caught 7 with the biggest a 38". All others 27"-32". Had some of the best crappie fishing I've ever had too and had a fun evening with some real nice size walleyes.
