JBMasterAngler
Lake Trout season doesn't open until Jan. 17. Check out the Duluth area forum and read up on all the advice about winter laker fishing. There's a couple lakes in the Grand Rapids area that have marginal at best laker fishing. Otherwise for quality fishing your pretty much limited to Ely/Grand Marais area.
ncesi
Go into the BWCA. There are many lakes that you can drive to and ski a small distance that have good Laker fishing. Go the extra mine and go up thru Crane Lake into to Canada along the border and ski into the BWCA and there are some awesome lakes. We used to spend every New years in the BWCA fishing Trout and winter camping, some of the best fishing and memories I have.
