Direct TV question

DANR

Question

My daughter sold her house and will be living in our basement until they find a new one. She says they have tons of programs recorded on their Direct TV box and is wondering if there is a way to watch them without the DTV subscription. Apparently she searched the online search giant without any conclusive answer. Anyone here had any experience?

Thanks!

Dan

By "the box" I assume you mean the DirectTV receiver. It is the property of DirectTV and when you cancel the box belongs to them. You may send it back or pay through the nose to keep it-and it is of no use to you without the dish and a hook up.

Whatever you "get away with" will be short lived.

If you have a computer with a HDMI input port, you can connect the box to the computer and play the recorded stuff into the computer. It happens in real time so it will take a week or so to do, then they can send the receiver back.
