For anyone curious how close you have to be before a hen will get off her nest, it's really close... This photo was taken at about six feet. She never left, I backed up after a few quick shots with the camera.

That's pretty cool!

I had the pleasure of watching a hen scratch out a spot for her nest this year. It took a while to figure out what exactly was going on but just another one of those neat things you see out in the field. See was in similar grass as your bird.
