looking for a new Spinning rod

I'm looking for a new spinning rod in the 7' range, I'd be using it mainly for worm fishing. Right now I'm looking at the Fenwick HMX, or a 13 fishing Omen Black? Should I look at others as well. Right now after holding them I'm leaning more towards the Fenwick.

i bought the Fenwick HMG this winter 7' MH, had it out a few times this year on the river and it is an awesome rod. Still holding at the $100 for those and i think well worth the upgrade from the HMX. The HMG is a much better rod for not much more.

I really like seeing Fenwick getting mentioned again. They have always been one my absolute favorite rods and I think the best dollar for dollar rods out there. That being said because JPZ mentioned the Carrot Stix, I bought a Heavy Cover Honeycomb Skeet Reese yellow banana looking thing a couple years ago that turned into my favorite. Check out those super light rods like these that are around now, they're pretty nice. Those Ducketts are phenominal also, but expensive.

Carefull though JPZ, there were a lot of posts the last year or so of the Carrot Stix blowing up and very poor service on replacement. Altough like we spoke of the other day, we seem to bring out the complainers on these forums.

Musky, I was just having a conversation on their rods......that specific model just in casting. And for the money they are an amazingly light rod and pretty darn slick. And right now I think they are $70 at Cabelas and you can have free shipping on rods as well.

Well I ended up going with a Fenwick, I got the Silverhawk SHS70ML-SG (built on a 30 ton graphite blank). Should be a really nice upgrade to the $20-$30 rods I have now. After holding a bunch in the local stores the Fenwick just had the right action I was looking for. Thanks everyone who gave feedback on a lot of different models, that I wouldn't have thought of looking at before.

You will enjoy owning that Fenwick. I have been fishing them for years. Had an old Eagle GT that was my 'go to' stick for half a decade. I know I boated well over 1000 fish with that thing. Then one day I got careless and did not notice that I had a line wrap and snapped about 6-8 inches off. Crushing...but totally my fault. I now have 2 HMX's and one of the Elite Tech Smallmouth rods. The Elite Tech is my new favorite. Great rods.
