Tx fishing

will be hitting Lake Of The Pines in east Tx this week. Hope the water has warmed up. There are some nice fish in this lake. Plus it is a very pretty area of Tx. There is also some big crappies to try for, but, it has been a cold winter down here, cold for them

I love LOP. Was there not long ago. It should be getting really good pretty soon, I was a couple weeks too early this year.

Just got back from Lake Fork yesterday. We were starting to see water temps in the mid to upper 50's by Wednesday afternoon. Fishing was slow for the most part but very close to busting open. Did manage a 7.5lber but not great for numbers. Those Florida strain bass can be very tough to catch in water below 60 degrees. Best baits were chart/white spinnerbaits, red rattle traps, and chart/white chatterbaits. Heard of a few guys that did well with big lizards t-rigged but we mostly stuck to moving baits trying to locate active fish. Another thing a lot of guys do down there is use what they call a light/short Carolina rig in the spring with a baby brush hog or lizard type bait. Good luck with your trip!

I'll be heading down to Fork next week. I can't wait. Did you check out any of the smaller lakes in the area when you were down there? Our experience has been better on some of those at times than Fork. I'll post a report when we get back.

If it's cold, as it was last month, I try to spend most of the time on the power lakes. I don't really like Fork, there's better lakes around. Always fish at least 2 or 3 different lakes. If you hit LOP right, you'll never want to leave. And always want to go back, hot or cold you can always get em there.

We had a good trip, averaging about 25 fish a day. Not quite as many big fish as the past but did get them up to 7.5 lbs.
