Bureaucrat
Just got back from Bitter tonight. Walleye bite was slow, and the size of what we caught was average eleven inches. Seems like a good year class, just not for this year. Our trip got cut short when the wind kicked up today. Visibility on the lake dropped to almost zero in no time. Ice seemed in very good condition. However, the snow was blowing pretty good today creating new hard pack to deal with if you're pulling anything on the lake. There are drifts out there, and there are bare spots. We got everywhere we wanted to go with our trucks. There are some pockets of slush to be found along some of the east shoreline. carpshooterdeluxe
Was up in the Webster area yesterday; wanted to fish Bitter but heard there was some difficulty getting to the area we targeted so we started on reetz and moved to waubay in the afternoon. No issues driving around on Waubay, good path off the glenville access to the point that cars were able to drive out at least 1 mile. Some slush just west of the landing on Reetz, snow a little deep just off the ramp as well. No issues moving around once on the lake though, but 4x4 is needed.Only other issues with lake access we heard of up there was Piyas, which currently is only accessible via the tribal ramp, and the tribe wardens are watching and checking to see if you have a tribal license to legally use that access. BuckSutherland
Did you catch anything or did the cold have it shut down??On Waubay do they only really bite morning and evening?
carpshooterdeluxe
Caught plenty of fish, big perch, small walleye, roaming in mixed schools. nothing but white bass after 5:30 pm, but we didn't move any shallower to investigate evening walleye potential. BuckSutherland
I fished 26 feet in Waubay about a week ago up by Greenville and got blanked on the perch. Caught some small eyes, and that was it. What depth did you find them in?? We got a few on bitter in 18, but those were just by accident. Never did get on a good perch bite and didnt want to deal with the crowds on Piyas. The blizzard warning cut the trip short.
carpshooterdeluxe
25-26 feet. Fish hit a variety of presentations. call em in and get them to chase. they'd either smoke the spoon or move right to the dead stick.
