Birds around Moorhead area?

Recommended Posts

Just started school here at Concordia and am wondering what the bird numbers are like up around this area..

If anyone has hunted around this area, what do you prefer for mallards, water or fields?

Obviously have to do some scouting but just trying to get a general idea..

Thanks if anyone has help!

If you're staying in Minnesota to hunt, there are some good public areas not far from Mooooorhead. Go onto the DNR HSOforum and take a peak at their public land finder. You'll notice a lot of Canada geese trading to and from the sugar plant. If you can get out early enough to track them from their lagoons to the fields, you can find a spot to hit that afternoon or the next morning.

Otherwise, there is that state not far from you to the west that offers pretty good waterfowling on occasion. Nothing really close to the FM area, but if you want to travel an hour or so, you might find a duck or two....
