Eskimo gear box replacement

Gadgetman

Question

Was up on Red this past weekend and the gear box on my buddies eskimo started making a hellacious grinding noise and then stopped spinning all together. fortunately found a nice neighbor on the ice to borrow an auger from for the moment. The question is can you just buy a new gear box or is a whole new auger in his future?

He should be able to get the gear box, and should contact Eskimo to find out where to get the parts (Eskimo Online or contact the store he bought his auger at).

But if he's replacing it himself, he should make sure the motor's drive shaft wasn't damaged. A gear box going out can cause other damage. If he takes it to a certified repair shop, they can check all that out.

Not sure what the bill would be, or if it's too much to be worth it. Maybe it is time for a new one.
