Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Humminbird ice 45

Recommended Posts

Just bought the ice 45 and want to hear from guys that have either the 45 or the 55. Just want to know your thoughts on how well you like it or don't like it and your favorite feature. I like it so far but threw that support cable away, what a joke that is!

I bought the 45 when it first came out, only problems have been 1) I had trouble one time with losing my jig, couldn't get it on the screen, ( no current) but just never happened again, 2) turned it off but it kept running, only happened once 3) charger went bad after 1.5 yrs of light use, cut the wires and retired without the two stage light thing now it is fine 4) I don't maintain my batteries, I say I will every summer but that is all my fault, but just this last time out it doesn't register the battery level right, read 0% for a couple hours and was still running fine!?!?

Overall, I like it better than my fl-8, better screen, zoom, all the pros out weigh the few problems in 3 years, I thought about buying a 35 to replace my fl-8, should be happy with yours, nothing chronic with mine!

Brother has one (55) and he really likes it. If he isn't around I use it and I really like it also. The zoom modes are nice. And dual beam ducer is a nice feature.

Just bought the 45 this fall and love it. The zoom feature is awesome and so is the duel beam. Fished in a hub style house this past weekend with a lx-3 and a fl-18 and had absolutely now interference! Plus I was able to get mine for under $300 online with the $45 mail in rebate.

I have had a 45 for a couple years now and I love it. Far better than the old FL-8 that it replaced (still have the fl8 for a backup and when I take a friend with that has no fishfinder).

There really isn't anything I can complain about it honestly. Usually I go for the top of the line but the only thing the had that I found of any interest was that you could change the dial to blue. I have a hard time seeing blue and making it pop (it all blurs together for some reason) so I just stuck with the 45.

The support cable thing didn't even make it to the lake, I took that off when I pulled it out of the box. Other than that no problems to speak of. I guess I broke the Humminbird charger and still had a Vexilar one so I just use that. My own fault there though.

When using small lures in deep water I just zoom in to where I am fishing and it picks up the lures just fine. It seems like the target separation is really good when your zoomed in. It also seems to help to adjust the transducer beam to the right setting. If I am in less than 30' I leave it at the wider angle. Deeper than that I narrow it up.

The interference issue is also great. I have yet to have a single problem when fishing around other stuff. Really nice compared to the Vexilar in that scenario.

Not sure as to the durability factor but in three years of owning it I have had no problems. Usually if something is going to let go it would have by now.

Depends on water clarity and size of jig. Smaller jig means more gain bigger jig less gain. The times i have used my brothers it been easy to see a size 12 jig with the gain around 30. This was in pretty clean water. I could see the jig 5.5-6 foot down

Looks like I'm going to be the first nay sayer. I had a 45 last year and really didnt care for it. I fished on lake of the woods with 2 other vex and another bird and it was nothing but interference. We tried every setting and beam and combination and it didn't help. Also there was a constant flickering on the bottom which i thought was maybe just the soft bottom. However the flickering on the bottom continued with I fished around home on a rocky bottom. I brought it back and the guy told me he would upgrade me to the 55 for an extra 30 bucks so I took it and fished with it a couple times this year and had the same problems. It was frustrating to I sold it and am currently on the search for my next one. Have an fl-8 and probably going to try marcum either lx-5 or 6, whenever I make up my mind.

Ice 55 owner for the last 3-4 yrs. No problems. Could this be user error? Although many conditions can affect such its also very possible the unit and transducer you had gone bad.

Maybe it was user error. Another reason that prompted me to sell was 2 of my buddies have had 55's for quite a while now and they both have had their flashers quit on them this season. Same problems with both. All of this put together made me want to sell. I hope every one else has a better experience.

A guy at work bought a 45 a few weeks ago and my brother asked him today what kind of flasher he bought (because my brother knows he doesn't even know what he bought)and he replied fl-45 lol.. It was pretty funny and he was trying to tell me his buddy has a ice 65...Anyway he likes the 45, but I don't think he knows what to look for in a flasher so idk if his review is worth considering lol...

    • Ice fishing is on fire right now. Varying ice conditions all over the lake so please go through a resort and use the ice roads as they are checked daily. Water clarity is good. Trails are staked by resorts. Ice is stacked up in most areas so drilling and finding a spot where you can get an auger through is a must. Auger extension could be necessary in spots. Each lake access is different right now so please call ahead to the resort you plan on going out of to check ice report and whats being let out. Walleyes and saugers are snapping at anything with a shiner on it. Sorting through smaller fish is necessary to find keepers. Some big fish rolling around out there. Depending on the school some schools are aggressive while others need finessing up the hole.  Colors did not seem to be a large factor. Pike action in back bays continues to be hot.    On the Rainy River, ice stretches from shore to shore but is unsafe for travel and fishing at this time. Safety First.   NW Angle is frozen over with good ice in most spots but some weak areas in some known locations. ATV and snowmobile travel on designated marked trails. Resorts are checking ice conditions, marking trails, and placing houses. 10-15" of ice where resorts fish and fishing is electric.
    • Someone is telling me Nils is out of auger business.  True?
    • No problem, if your looking for something pre-made just google 'speaker spacer rings'.  There are a million options for different sized speakers all pretty cheap.
    • Thank you, that helps a lot.
    • Anyone here know anything about this round?  My father-in-laws's uncle used to have a lever action rifle that shot .35 Whelen. I just did a search to try and learn more about the round and see what the gun may have been but it appears that lever action guns were never really available in .35 Whelen and it was most likely a .30-.06 that was altered.  If that is true it sure makes me want to learn more about that gun.  Does anyone here have any knowledge of .35 Whelen?  I'm thinking of getting a lever action soon and because of price and availability of ammo was only considering a .30-.30 but now am looking harder at a .35 Remington.
    • Loaded weight 3450 lbs i think it was 450 on the tongue.
    • id rather fall through the ice and listen to tom yammer on and and on in his defensive videos.  i've got extensive hours with the proview.  no thanks.  tying cone angle to the sensitivity knob is one fo the dumbest designs i've seen.  it has application sure, but its limited
    • Well they won the 2 out of 3...keep it rolling boys
    • Do you know what model that would be? I suppose it's possible but it's just not reality. The large majority of criminals identify as Christians and that's a fact.
    • Brings back memories and reminds me of something I had totally forgotten!!   Decades ago was at a wilderness cabin with a couple guys and on of them had this carbine. I shot it a few times (open sights) and took it out for a walk next morning. Shot two deer at around 50 yards and they both dropped dead.  Am surprised the item you have in photo has a recoil pad since I do not recall any recoil at all. Always thought it was a handy little piece but never used it again and had no inclination to buy one. Do have a 10-22 of course
(doesn't every home have one:) and other items. Many don't know Ruger makes their BIG rifle in .22 caliber with a laminated stock. Had one with nice Zeiss glass and it was a tack driver.  Don't recall what I did with it. Okay, back to standby.
