I'm not a big fan of leaving my electronics out in the very cold temps, so i'd wait til spring. As far as wiring; i'd run my power wire to the fuse/breaker box. If you'r making a big step up in electronics you may consider getting a AC/DC adapter. I got to play with my 798 for a couple of months before putting it on the boat that way.
