Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Archery Photo Contest Winners

Recommended Posts

Thanks very much to all who contributed in any way to the Archery Photo Contest! We had a lot of people offer up pictures, but we also had people donate prizes and their time as well. Thanks a bunch!

To acknowledge those who offered prizes, I'll post the prizes below with the names of those who offered them. Thanks very much to those who did this- your generosity is appreciated!

Antler plaque mount- DonBo

Wildgame Mini-IR trailcam- Archerysniper

Havalon Piranta Edge knife and Zip Saw- Powerstroke and me

Weekend of ice fishing on LOW for one adult and one or two kids- boar

24" x 36" Custom Hunting map- NorthwoodsMap

HSO stickers, 3 pack of Muzzy MX-3s, folding knife, EBJ hat- Rick and me

Side note #1: You may notice that some of the winners also were people who donated prizes. I assure you this did not impact them being awarded a prize- the judges (I was not a judge) had no idea who donated prizes so their ratings were not impacted by this at all.

Side note #2: Neither HSO nor I is responsible for anything related to these prizes. They're being given for fun and are available due to the generosity of those who donated them. If something is broken, doesn't work like you hoped, falls apart, or doesn't meet your expectations, it's yours and yours to deal with! If that would happen, we suggest an "easy come, easy go" attitude towards dealing with it! winklaugh

Side note #3: Thanks very much to the HSO member who judged the contest. He, in addition to two buddies of mine, put in their time and expertise to pick the final winners. I won't mention his name, but if he wants to chime in he certainly can so people can thank him for his time and efforts.

So, with all of that in mind, here are your winners!

Hero #1: Prize = Antler Mount donated by DonBo (note: please speak with Don about getting you a mount- he will not be responsible for shipping or any problems that may arise from shipping/getting you the mount when it's done).

Non-hero #1: Prize = Weekend of ice fishing at Lake of the Woods (note: this trip is for one adult and one or two kids, but there MUST be at least one person less than 17 years old in an effort to encourage kids to fish. He will not be "guiding" you, but you can fish in his house and he'll be fishing nearby and will help to ensure you're in a good spot, all geared up, and ready to roll. Talk to boar about details.)

We have been so busy attending my son's wrestling matches the past 3 days that I have not been able to check out this site until now.

My son and I love to ice fish, so we are really excited about the opportunity to go to Lake of the Woods.

I'll try and come up with a prize to donate for next years photo contest.

Thanks eyesonly. The photo was taken during the youth hunt at Ripley. It was his first time doing the youth hunt. We had a great time and hope to get drawn again next year. He is only 14 so hopefully he gets drawn at least one more time.

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • I wont get out till Sat morn we shall see how it goes
    • Yikes! I think I see a gobbler track in the mud right before that blood trail starts. Hope everything turned out positive. Looking forward to pics.
    • I thought I would add some pictures. This is a 2013 frame from CW welding I believe. Yours might be a little different if it is from a different frame company. I started by blocking the house up and I removed the tire. The first time I ever did this their was almost no grease on the pivot at all. I bought this frame from a salvage auction after the house burned down. I am not sure if they did not grease it enough the first time or the grease got hot and ran out when the house burned down. This time when I took it off plenty of grease was still on the pivot and I could have got by another year without greasing it.   You can see the bolt you need to remove on the outside of the pivot.  Then cut the zip tie off to pull out the extra wire.  The whole arm will then slide off if you leave slack in the cables. I put a floor jack under the hub to make it easier. Then clean everything up and grease it.
    • Beautiful bird there Wallydog. Congrats
    • Story goes like this. 1. Uncle from St Cloud arrives Boise 10 pm Thursday night 4/12. 2. Drive to Orofino Friday to hunt private property I've hunted since 1990 and scout some. 3. Deploy blind Saturday and scout (re-confirm bird presence) some more. 4. Arrive parking spot in fairly hard rain at 0430. 5. First gobble on roost at 0530. 6. 0550 flydown, Hens jakes and longbeards responding but not interested in my game......yet. 7. Very vocal birds for 45 minutes. 8. Silence for 1 hour 9. Distant gooble heard and responds to me at 0800 9a. Rain stops. 10. 0820 Gobbles getting closer, sounds like 3-5 birds. 11. Nuther gobble from different vector is heard.  12. Several longbeards now visible at 150 yards responding to everything I throw at them. 13. Gobble at ~60 yards from gobbler from different vector. 14. Mayhem, cacophony, loudmouths. 15. Single gobbler appears and is walking right into a bad spot for him. 16. He dies at 0900 at 25 yards by my uncles shot. 17. I attempt to hold and call back other toms but they won't have it. 18. 1500 Decide to pull up and move blind 1/4 mile. 19. Set up by 1545. 20. 1600 Make one series of calls.................sit down. 21. 1605 Peek out the slot of my turkey silo blind and see nice silent longbeard walking to decoys 15 yards distant. 22. Mayhem 23. Poke uncle Don and look in direct he came from to see another very alert longbeard that slips out of sight. 24. Said long beard meets his waterloo by my shot at 1610 and can't call the alert bird back...... 25. 1700 see three hens and a strutter slipping into brush at 100 yards. 26. 1715 Said strutter appears silent but strutting in all his glory at 35 yds. 27. Don smokes this one as well!  This is the first year we can harvest 2 bearded turkeys in the same day and Don is very likely one of the first Non-Residents to do so legally. 28. Radar shows big rain coming. 29. Let's pack up before we get drenched again. 30. Monday was a total washout, rain, rain, rain and snow.  We didn't hunt but did a farm/crop tour of my son in laws operation in Lewiston. 31. Radar/forecast indicated nothing but moisture for Tuesday. So We Drove Home to Boise. 32. Don flew home this morning. All in all we had a tremendous trip seeing loads of game and visiting with landowners.
    • As I think about it, my interpretation of 2 layers thick was probably not correct. It's a uniformly distributed load that's assumed. So if the 10PSF is correct and 4.25 PSF is used up, then there's 5.75PSF left to work with. That means a straight calculation of 64 SF(an 8x8 platform) x 5.75 PSF = 368 pounds total spread mostly evenly over the whole platform. If stuff starts getting piled up in one area, then that creates a concentrated load; that's when my brain starts to hurt!! BTW, there are always factors of safety built in to structural design, but you probably don't want to get into those....for safety.    BTW, me and electrons don't get along
    • Plan on hitting the woods Saturday Morning.  Not real keyed in the birds yet.   They will turn more predictable.
    • I agree, now is the time to go up since its cool out, especially for you. What about the basic roof vents, they must be able to get in that way if the screens are not intact..
