Mr. Wizard
Any recent reports on conditions on Whitefish Bay? We hope to bring snowmobiles up late next week for travel and to pull portables.
jerkin'm
Lots of slush up in that area now...Just got back and traveled Whitefish and many other lakes-No problem getting around for us but we don't pull shacks...Lots of ice build up under the sleds. FishinFreaks
It's still really easy getting around despite the slush. There's not tons of snow out there, so it's pretty manageable. As was said before, there's a lot of ice build up under the sleds. Be sure to knock the slush out of your tracks and the tunnel of your sled before calling it a night. Otherwise you'll be frozen solid.
Mr. Wizard
JM and FFThanks for the replys...we're still debating about next weekends trip. Any guesses as to if conditions will improve or not with the slush in the next week? For what we plan we need to pull sleds behind the machines. Would sunset channel be any better or worse? FishinFreaks
What are you running for sleds? If you've got any power and anything for lugs on your tracks, you should be just fine. There's a lot of tracks to stay running in. I wouldn't worry about it if you've got half decent sleds. We didn't have anything special for sleds. jerkin'm
There are plenty of packed trails in the main travel corridors....I don't know what they got for precip or melting since we left on Tuesday...We had one person with a lowriding older yamaha vmax with next to no lug left and he made it...a couple times barely, but made it..If he would have been pulling a house, no way he would have made it through some of the deeper water spots..it got worse by Tuesday for sure....We don't stay on the main pathways for long though either...If you have to pull sleds behind and don't have longtracks I would think twice if it were me....We pulled houses/tubs once, never again...Make some racks for your sleds and tough it out outside.. muskiebayresort
This past weekend has gone from warm weather, rain, a lot of water on the lake to almost no snow on the lake. Yesterday it snowed almost 8 inches and this morning it is -4 below. Everything now has froze up and it is easier to get around.
