Pretty slow on west 81 today. A handfull of 8" walleyes and even smaller perch between 3 of us today.

Open water on every lake in the area, and many spots that are capped over but very thin. Best advice is fish where others are fishing, check the ice often, and have a set of spikes along. every hole we drilled except for one was 8" of ice or better, but I talked to a few guys tonight that hit multiple spots on the east side of 81 that were thin. Looking at this week's forcast, I'm done ice fishing in SD for a while. Probably get the open water gear back out and hit some spots this week though.

I took the scenic route back home yesterday, and with the wind this weekend and I didn't like what I was seeing either on a lot of the lakes. Its going to be a while yet before I get out. The cool weather last night was great to see, but it will all probably be a wash with the high temps forecasted later this week.

I was on East 81 yesterday morning and the fishing was slow, one 22 inch walleye. As for the ice, sketchy is the best word to define it. Depending on how often you go home I don't know if I would leave the fishing stuff at home, but if you don't like walking on sketchy ice I would expect to wait for a week or so of cold temps before trying to fish.
