JohnMickish
Whats the budget and what is the intended use? If you have a $50 budget looking for an all purpose rod/reel that is completly different than a $300 budget looking for a jig rod/reel combo and so on. CLARK37
Trying to keep it around 100-150.
JohnMickish
Limit Creek smoothie and a Cabelas Prodigy spinning reel when it's on sale. This combo will be at the upper limits of your budget but it's a great combo. To be honest with you, just about any combo in the $150 range is going to be a good rod/reel. Check out some of the bigger box stores and see what they have on sale right now. There are some great deals to be had.
pulleye16
I also own the prodigy combo with the magtouch pole from the big "C". $150 combo and the pole is very sensitive. I use it for lindy and jigging.
elusivecrappiecatcher
I would agree with the guys that replied before me...I have a $650 jigging rod and reel and wish i wouldn't have spent as much and went with the above option. For the money you can't pass up that Cabelas option. riverrat56
St. Croix Premier and Pfluegger President, should put you right at about $160. For a multi purpose rod it be tought to beat a 7' M Fast. If your looking for a rod to do everything but jig and troll with the 7'6" ML is a great option for rigging, pitching cranks, slip bobber fishing and does very well as a crappie rod as well. solbes
I agree with the Croix/Pfluegger combo above. If you want to save $30, opt for the St Croix Triumph. Same rod blank and components as the Premier, but it's made in China not the US. Doubt you'd tell a difference. Shimano Symetre is a nice reel in that range too. skolfoppa
Shimano rods and reels are great. I believe all rods starting at the Clarus +/- $60 on up are warrantied for life. I run five symetres and a few stradics and saharas and have never had a problem. They have brought a ton of fish in the boat!Skol.
