I was looking at Menards at direct vent furnance. Does anyone have a housewarmer 18,000 btu unit. Just wanted to know if it was any good or should I go with a 15,000 btu Empire for $100.00 more? My house is a 6'1/2 x 14'.

have not taken a close look at them, but I would go with the direct vent. From what I recall, the direct vent take a dual pipe, or two in one. The inner pipe is the exhaust and the outer pulls in outside air into the heater, so it does not take from inside the house.

not framiliar with the first one....But I own 2 empires in my two house's and they are tough to beat. Have never given me a problem. They are a quality piece, and they use pretty standard parts. Im in the hvac trade & parts for them would be easy to comeby. The one Ive got is 15years old, and still going strong, in good shape as well...IMO Empire is worth the extra dough,,,installed correctly it will give you years of trouble free use.
