Spring Fishing

Recommended Posts

Sharpe is head and shoulders above any other lake in South Dakota, but its a ways out there and it's big water with wind.

The new state record came out of Poinsett year and a half ago in April.

Roy Lake is very very good also.

You looking for quality or quantity?

Yes, Sharpe is froze up solid I would guess. If youre going to Sharpe, choose April in lieu of March. May is excellent also. The smallies are deep in the winter and dont migrate to the shallows until the water warms up some. I was on Sharpe the first day it was ice free which was Mar 19th last year.

I hear lots of good things about Lewis and Clark and even the lower end of Francis Case, but I have never fished those lakes for Smallies.

Numbers will always be strong on Sharpe, Size is very specific to time of year, water temp and obviously location.
