      Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

      Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

Devil's slow fishing conditions...

For visiting fishermen planning trips to Devil's Lake update:

Just got back from a long trip to Devil's lake. About 3 weeks stay. Just to say out of town fisherman lured to Devil Lake's big fishing attractions this year has been met mostly with slow fishing conditions due to weather. Although the bite has been warm and cold mostly.

About the same time last year the fish bite was really good. Success has only been in the hands of residing nearby resident locals.

The bite for the following fish so far as I have experienced it over the 3 weeks:

Walleyes are fair with my catch being about 26 fish, Northern's are active and plenty as usual as I must've caught over 40 fish, and White Bass are spotty and picky but I still manage to catch about 56. Let just say last year my numbers were double if not at least tripled.

I really say and maybe it's just my opinion and experience over the last few years,
but if you really want to fish Devil's lake, I would wait until late June or early July this year. I believe by then that the fish bite will be back to normal.

Don't let my experience stop you from fishing at Devil's Lake.. there is still tons of fish to catch, just plan well ahead of time and make sure your days have sunlight and warmth as that affects fishing alot and can be the deciding factor between catching alot or nothing at all.

Anyhow... I still think Devil's Lake is still one of the best places to fish in the midwest, so have fun and good luck.

Andy, you did't say how or were you fished...did you fish from shore or a boat?..the East Bay, Main Bay or West Bay? or anything else.

    • Ended up making some non-breaded steak cubes (aka "Chislic" here in SoDak) that turned out friggin awesome. I took a sirloin tip roast, trimmed it up, and cut it into 1" cubes. I then vacuum sealed them for 6 hrs in a little olive oil, worchester, garlic, and coarse black pepper. I sprinkled on a little lawry's before putting them in. I did two batches... one batch "medium well" for the wife and kids, and one batch medium rare for me. Medium well took 10 min, Medium rare was 6. Turned out awesome! Even the Medium well was still tender and juicy.
    • So what you're saying is if we ever hear him say "I'm going out to the garage to give my blade a love rub" we shouldn't be too worried?
    • I have had 2 of these for a year or so. They work great for fries, tator tots, onion rings, shrimp,chicken strips.and basically anything breaded when you buy it. And they don't need any oil. Only OK if you bread them yourself. For those I spray Pam on them. The only thing is breaded fish fillets are only so so. I still prefer deep frying them. Fish is the only thing I still deep fry. I indulge my self there. Just not as good as deep frying. Pretty much everything else I air fry.

    • I drink schells fairly regularly. I  consider them in the "craft" category.   Snowstorm is always interesting.  I had sort of forgotten about it until just now.  I need to pick some up.
    • Coulda stopped the story there. Already too much work!
    • It wasn't easy. I had to marry a Finn and be in good standing with MIL to get my foot in the door.   I then meet Matti Nykänen at a Pikkujoulu Party  when he noticed I had a new Nokia phone and asked to see it.  We talked for hours about our ski jumping days over a loaf of Pulla. Later the conversation turned to ice fishing and Nils Master.  His uncle was a sharpener in Finland and planned to come to the USA and sharpen. Said he could make a lot of money.   Turned out he wasn't authorized by Nils Master and his true intent was to smuggle brown bread in the US and in doing so lost his visa.  It was a huge embarrassment to his family and to Finland.   Finland needed a sharpener in the US but I was a Norwegian.   After some arm twisting by my MIL I was allowed to be trained but I had to sign a sworn document not to pass anything on to either Norway or the Russians. Even then I wasn't allowed to see how the blade was made, only how to sharpen and reshape a blade that needed reshaping.  Retire,  exercise and a Finnish Brown Bread is the key to a long life and you don't need to smuggle it. I order it online from New York and it keeps good for years.
