Yup, as long as the receiver is authorized you can bring it just about anywhere, hook it up to a dish, and have the same viewing options as if you where at home. The wierdest thing is being several states away and still watching your local news.

The part that is the hardest is making sure you have a level surface to start with and put in your zip code and use those coordinates as a starting point. Tighten the bolts so that they are snug and just push the dish up and hold for a couple of seconds and if that did not work try down for a couple of seconds and to the left or right and repeat. Once you get a weak signal its just a matter of fine tuning. The Hd one's are a different story.

When i had a dish Id buy a post stake that can fit a 4x4 piece of wood in it. Mount the dish to the wood and hammer the spike into the ground. Makes a good level base and easy to transport.

Good luck pounding that stake into the ice! If the dish isn't mounted to the house, a lot of people get a tripod and mount it to some concrete blocks. It is an easy way to bring the dish into the house after use, but make sure if you use this method, to keep it close to the house and mark it with reflective tape for people flying by on snowmobiles. I would purchase a receiver instead of leasing one through the service company. Purchasing it will allow you to add and take it off of the account at any given time.
