Im sure this has been covered before but i was wondering about the marcum IR system dependency.

Is the marcum IR system any good compared to Vexilar?

i have a FL-8se and i need another flasher and im like the bottom zoom that it has.

I dont want a bunch of posts on which is better, just posts on if the IR system is better/same as the Vex.

THanks

With 1 LX-1 and 1 FL-8 you should be able to tune out the interference. If you get more Marcums in the mix, especially the higher-power models, you'll start to have more problems cleaning up the FL-8. But if it's only an LX-1 and a FL-8 you should be fine.

Jordyn, in certain circumstances, you are going to have interference with even the best of models. When you have deep water and a hard bottom, the signal is spread out and bounces around. In the right conditions, I’ve had interference with my LX-5 even as far away as 75yrds. Not to the point where it’s been useless, but interference not the less.

Sometimes it takes a little playing around, but the majority of times, you can get every combination of models and brands to work together. However, like I said, in some scenarios you might end up having to punt and deal with some unwanted noise.

One thing that helps a lot in reducing interference are models that have a narrow beam. Even in shallow water, it helps reduce the clutter when fishing around a bunch of people.

If I remember right, the Marcum as more IR settings than the Vex. Let the Vex get the settings first and then set the Marcum so it works and doesn't interfer with the Vex. I have the FL-20 and my Dad has the Marcum LX-1, and we do it that way and don't have a problem fishing next to each other in a Fish Trap Guide.
