hooksetter
1998 Ford Contour 157k milesThere is a nasty rattle that seems to be coming from the rear of the vehicle that is not present when idling in the driveway but is the worst at about 30 mph. It almost sounds like something rattling around in the trunk (it's not). Everything seems secure under the vehicle - no loose exhaust pipes or anything. Any ideas before I take it into the shop? Thanks!!
Big Buck Buster
Possible upper strut mounts, or sway bar links if the noise comes from hitting bumps.
Jeremy airjer W
Broken springs? Very common for those vehicles!

Jeremy airjer W
At least a few models. Escort, focus, taurus, contour.... Yup, pretty much all of them!

Nice that the parts stores offer the "quick strut" kits for repairs like this. Nice to just pull them out of the box already put together with new spring, strut, mount, all in one.
