island guy
I have about a 6lb agate. I've been unable to get my camera to work to post a pic. I took it to a "rock shop". The fella there told me it's a Brazilian agate. He said were used as ballast in ships in years gone by. Can anyone confirm this or add to it. Just curious about this. hydro
Ballast? Sounds like he was prepping you to make an offer. Really need to try and post a pic to get an opinion on what it really is.
DARK30
I believe the early sailors did use rock for balance when the holds were empty.Brazilian agates are popular with collectors but they arn't lakers.
hartner62
He is right, it was used as ballast a lot back in the day. Do a google search and you will see.
