HNTNBUX
Do any of you guys have any experience with the Refuge Deer hunt? I have hunted West River and the Hills and I can't get enough and I would like to try Sand Lake in December. Does anyone have some knowledge they can share? cold one sd
I haven't hunted Sand Lake deer but I know several guys that have. The problem seems to be snow up to your hips and rushes eight feet tall. I would think it would be good hunting if you can find the right place to hunt. Lots of deer, but lots of hunters also. It's just not for an old geezer like me.
HNTNBUX
So it sounds like a physical type hunt, I am fine with that if the deer are good sized. Do you know if it is mostly a spot and stalk type thing, still hunting or stand hunting? I have not seen the type of terrain but I expect some type of cattails and hope the deer leave those to go eat before dark.
cold one sd
Lots of area that is cattails and water, but there are also fields and tree claims. If I were to hunt the refuge I would try to find a place to get in cover. I think there are plenty of people walking to keep deer moving, but it can also push them deeper into cover. I talked to a couple of people that shot deer and couldn't retrieve them because they swam across water which was about eight feet deep.
