High Speed Left Handed Reels?

Maybe I should re-phrase my question. If you do the pulling with the rod tip, just reeling up the slack so that there is little pressure on the gears wouldnt this increase the life of the reel?

So what is a higer speed reel like a 6.3:1 6600 good for? Sunfish?

You will still be deflecting the frame and causing the gears to be out of alignment when you go to reel, BTDT with bigger jerk baits on that reel, let alone the pull of big blades. It's all relative to how fast you want to pull in the baits, i'm sure if you go slow enough it would last forever...

IME, not really. Mine was in service for about 4 months when I initially purchased it, then it broke. Fixed, broke within 2 weeks, fixed again, broke again...now it's shelved for good. I'd imagine small minnow baits, bucktails and topwaters would be fine, just not anything i'm willing to revisit since all my shimano reels have never failed from just fishing.

is changing gears hard to do? Can you switch to the 5.3:1 gears or cant this be done?

I know buying a new reel would be better, but im trying to avoid spending more $$$ right now.
