Reel Repair Help

Recommended Posts

This week I had two reels break on me. One of them is a C3 7000 which I had the worm gear bend on me. Anyone know where I can get a replacement worm gear? [Edit: Called Abu and they are sending a replacement worm gear total cost of $12.97]

The other is a C3 5600. This one i'm not sure what broke. I am able to reel line in, but if I take my hand off the handle it will spin backward allowing the spool to also spin backward. Any thoughts? Or any suggestions on where to bring it to have it looked at?

Where are you located? If nothing else, you could send your reels to Pure Fishing. They're great to deal with and are usually very quick.

South Metro. I'd like to find a place within driving distance so I can be back on the water sooner than later if at all possible.

Sounds like the anti-reverse bearing went out on your 5600... Nothing you really can do but to look for a replacement face plate for that reel as you cannot replace the AR bearing... its pressed in the face plate... Thats how my first Abu was no-good...

I don't know how much you fish, but if you can afford it I would throw that ABU'S in the garbage and start over. You will find yourself putting money into those year after year. Try out a 400B. Just my two cents!

brings back memories. I second PostFrontal, Wayzata Bait, give them a call. I also second esoxhunter, switched over to a shimano curado's and calcutta's and have been fishing with no worries.

    • Careful, man.  Any such suggestions get criticized pretty heavily.  I came here around this time last year and posted something similar, and I hadn't been on this forum for quite some time.  My question was met by one of the mods with mock & ridicule.  But he thought that was okay as long as he put a smiley face or an lol after every sentence.  Funny, funny guy.  No wonder it's a ghost town around here.  Too bad, this was a must-read destination back in the day.
    • Here are a couple pictures from our WI season. We were able to take 5 birds. Two of us had two tags and one buddy just had one tag. Really think the predators in the area have these birds learning to be silent. They do not gobble much and if they do it’s mainly morning before fly down 2 or 3 times at the most. Over that last 5 years it’s been like this the first 10 years gobbling was heard through the day but now you don’t hear that gobbling in the distance or to calls very often. Still come to calls but almost ways silent now which is fine they still come in.   Finally all done and food plots are almost finished love the spring time.
    • Congrats on the bird
    • Congrats on the bird.
    • Assume you were in a blind since you are bow hunting.  That is a long time ...  active bird or no bird.   Very Nice.
    • Way to go!  That's persistence!
    • Way to go Britt!
    • So our bear friend came back today and she brought somebody with her. It might be time to quit feeding the birds sunflower seeds until next fall.
    • I picked up that double bag deal about a month ago at Home Depot here in Sioux Falls. Ironically it was the same weekend we had the big April snow storm.
    • I see Home Depot advertising for Memorial day but no Kingsford double bag on sale. Has anyone seen any on sale anywhere? I am down to my last bag and need to stock up, Memorial weekend is usually the time to do it.
