Drilling out rivets?

6 posts in this topic

I'm going to replace the floor in my boat...too many soft spots. The floor is riveted down...what's the best way to remove the rivets to be able to pull the floor up? Drill them out?

Yep.. that's the best bet... get a bunch of good drill bits!

I second this....get good bits. Trying to drill out a rivet with a dull bits....well.....ain't fun.

They must be pop rivets, not solid rivets holding the floor down. If you can find a skinny punch to knock the nails out of the pop rivets they drill out really easy. If they start to spin go at it from a slight angle, then straighten it out. all you really need is to get the heads off, then you can take care of the rest once the floor is out.
