Be On The Lookout For A Flathead Catfish Thief

41 posts in this topic

Well I was doing my daily (living vicariously threw You-Tube) flathead catfishing and while searching videos I happen to stumble on this.

Get a "load" of this video smirk

He also has a couple uncle craig's ad's in the lost and found section about this??? Is this a joke?

He has this posted at You-Tube:

Quote:
I caught a fish too big to bike home. I tied it off and came back with a friend in the morning. STOLEN most likely by a Carver, MN local. This location was hard to get to under a RR bridge and someone knows something? If your friend showed up from 6-26-09 TWO DAYS AGO with a monster fish its mine. it has a hook mark on the left cheek, and it has black and yellow skin like an idaho potato.. then white to a red belly. The record for Flathead is 70lbs.. and I think mine is bigger. It's bigger than my Weimaraner.

It must be a joke grin

Well for one thing its not as big as he thinks it is and second it looks like the fish was foul hooked which means its not a legal catch.

Lastly...if I came across a fish tied up with no one in sight, that thing would be released faster than you can say state record. smile

LOL, 50 maybe! I too would have released it back to the wild, and not even thought twice about it. I wonder what he was thinking about doing with a fish that size anyway? To whoever released the fish, good for you! For whoever tied it up, I think it was illegal what you did, and I wouldn't be putting my name on any of this and advertising tieing the fish up and leaving it!

Might have to start calling them spuds laugh

6-26-09 Lots of guys on the river that night, as it was a BPCL night. I'm sure I would've threw a KOTC logo on it and had a snapshot. smile

Well hopefully it was set free and didn't go home in the trunk of a car.

lol I'm reading this and thinking wow this guy must have been Papa Grumps scouter.

All jokes aside this guy is an [PoorWordUsage]. Yes I'm going to put it out there that I willingly broke the law and then while out it might as well put out a video and craigs list ad. WOW good job on the find and release. Hopefully someone will have pics of the release on here soon.

Just as a side note did he say what he tied it too. One would think if not tied properly the fish would 1 brake the line 2 brake the branch tied too or 3 tied to close to the show the yotes drug it off. Wait or 4 some decent person saw it tied there and released the pour thing.

Stolen?? [PoorWordUsage]?

You suppose the fish just got away? What'd he tie it up with something? Did it come loose? Rope break?

Just seams "fishy". Story possibly fabricated to add some drama to a big fish vid?

HKK... we're kinda thinking the same thing there. I bet the thing just came loose somehow. I mean you have a big sand beach, what do you tie it to?

Thats what I was thinking also. I mean come on now big fish + nowhere to tie off = fish loose

Its simple as that

first off if even a doubt that it was state record (I dont think it was)I would of been baby sitting it all night until it was verified but that goes back to another thread that we had many photos with measurements andthe like.2ndly I heard of thirty lb cats bending apart the d ring on a stringer. most likely escaped and is free and I also would of set it free after some pics of the monster cat tied up but could never claim it if I didnt catch it, and the BPCL is all about honesty and honestly I had one tied up bigger than that by a bridge in savage grinlaugh and that one was stolen laugh

Wow stupidity at it's finest. Some people that are on the river are just plain stupid. I was out tonight and two guys came up and saw we had his spot and they decided to fish there anyways and then they are throwing their trash into the river and such. Also they released a Sheephead from 20 feet up on the bank and the thing died...I really hope these types of people don't call themselves outdoorsmen.

I was sure I saw a sasquatch down there that night. I think it was stolen by the sasquatch.

I have witnessed a sasquatch stealing a flathead before.

Ok, Ok, I will fess up..... I was up there, took it, and brought it home and ate it. I didn't gain 60lbs, so it wasn't a state record. But it tasted good.

I sent a link to the T.I.P. line!! Sounded like they were going to look into it. Not sure if I'll here back from them, but they do know about it now.

Well played my friend. Hopefully they will learn about Minnesota regulations...the hard way.

    • We are on Lake Edward at WildWoods RV resort just north of Merrifield, MN. It is nice just driving up, unlocking it, playing for the weekend and locker her back up and leaving the frig on.  They let Atheists and Jesus freaks all in!
    •   My wife and I are starting to think about parking ours someplace. I'm tired of trying to get reservations and having to hook and unhook and all that goes with a weekend of camping. Plus I would like to have the toys available like 4-wheeler and boat.   We are looking at places up north. We know several people and like the Emily-Outing-Remer-Hill City area. I think you a further west, right? Brainerd area maybe?
    •   5 years at one campground until they went private and wanted 60-70g's per lot with one-just-like-silly-me-o-en fees which were about what we were paying yearly already on top of that!  12 years where we are now with way bigger lots.
    •   Too bad the previous owner didn't know what they were doing. Never, ever use silicone on a rubber camper roof. I learned that the hard way many years ago.....   At least you have a good reason to have to go to the camper this weekend    How long have you been doing the seasonal thing?
    • Thanks for the reply, sounds about like what I expected and I really like the square tubing on the otters compared to clams round cheaper setup. Anyone seen any changes to the new otter lineup for this year?
    • Last weekend spent some time re-sealing a small seam leak on a trim edge. Found out the owner before us had a leak on the same trim edge spot and left out a screw!! Also washed down the canopy and the ever reoccurring black streaks around the roof edge.   This weekend may go back and clean out and reseal a few other areas the passed own made a mess of sealing with sillycone! Using Butyl rubber this time as silicone can be pulled right off after a few years.
    • Lots of talk on sports radio and social media lately on whether the Wolves should workout a deal that sends Wiggins to Cleveland for Kyrie. Of course there would likely be some other bit players involved to make contracts work, but for all intents and purposes it's Wiggins for Kyrie.   As a fan, would you do it, yes or no?   I'm personally leaning toward "no." Kyrie is very good and still young. But he doesn't seem to offer much beyond scoring - not a prolific assist guy and his defense has never stood out. Perhaps most importantly, if reports are true and one of the main reasons he wants to leave Cleveland is so he can be the primary star on his own team - that makes me question what type of leader, team player, and locker room presence he would be. Say what you want about Lebron, but on the court he seems like an ideal teammate, almost too willing to make the extra pass. And Cleveland still has one of the best routes back to the Finals, why would you want to get away from that?
Wiggins certainly has his faults, but he is a dynamite scorer. His defensive is poor, but at least the tools are there to be a good defender. If we lose him we also have a pretty big hole to fill on our roster. Whereas right now we have what appears to be a solid PG in Teague.    I wouldn't hate it if we landed Kyrie, but with our current situation I prefer Wiggins. All in all though, it's certainly fun to finally be in a situation where stars want to play here, not avoid Minny at all costs.
    • For many years my dad, uncles, etc have been heading to the Leech Lake area every spring and fall to fish for walleyes. There are usually 8-10 guys that go. Many of them are from the Barron, Wisconsin area. Since I've never really fished in Wisconsin, thought it might be fun to head to there one of these trips. Have always heard the Hayward area is pristine. Does anyone have a favorite lake, or possibly a favorite resort in the area I should add to the list when doing some research?  Walleyes are the only thing these guys are after.   I know there is a Wisconsin form, but it seems kind of quiet over there, so I'm hoping to get some opinions here.
    • Well except for the owner. He's kinda ancient!!   We did the same thing with the frig to Dave on the first camper we had.
